SALT AND TEARS (2019 - present)

Today gender equality is on the tip of everyone's tongue and a major subject of a global debate. Sport is considered a platform where gender must encounter no boundaries however there are still many gaps that remain unidentified. It's little known that sumo – a historical Japanese martial art and the nation's longtime favorite sport – is open solely for male professionals. Women are not allowed to be part of this world and while this tradition stays intact sumo won't become part of the Olympic games.

Nowadays female sumo wrestlers in Japan are fighting hard to be heard and to be allowed to practice sumo on a professional level. Salt and Tears photographic project is aimed at putting a spotlight on this issue as well as supporting the wrestlers by documenting their life on the ring, during training sessions and at home. It is a photographic statement raising questions about the stereotyping of a woman's body and her role in the modern society.
